Influence

The 50 years of Japanese rule in Taiwan was a key period in the complete westernisation of Taiwan's medical system. A large number of educated and qualified doctors of Taiwanese origin have completed their training in a structured medical environment. During his time in Taiwan, Dr Takagi has devoted his efforts to supporting Taiwanese students in their medical research. After he passed away, the teachers and students of the medical school published a book of their gratitude and memories of Takagi.
Dr. Du Cong-Ming's comments on his teachers: "Mr. Takagi was a scholar and statesman with a noble personality and a high level of knowledge. He taught each class of graduates, 'Before becoming a doctor, one must learn to be a human being', and he himself took charge of the physiological and hygiene subjects as well as lecturing on ethics and cultivation of the human body, and he taught the students 'living knowledge' to cultivate a good style of learning. He could not bear to dismiss the rickshaw driver and replaced him with a strong one, which the author admired the most" (Du Cong-Ming, 1973)
