Hygiene Exposition

The Dresden Hygiene Exposition of 1911 was a large-scale exhibition organised by Carl Linde to raise public awareness of hygiene and public health. Officially known as the International Hygiene Exposition, it was held in Dresden, Germany. An important milestone in the public health movement, the exhibition attracted professionals and members of the public from all over the world and showcased the latest research and technology in all aspects of public health, medicine, nutrition, sport and disease prevention. It included exhibits on bacteriology, sterilisation techniques, nutrition and so on. One of the main aims of the exhibition is to raise public awareness of hygiene and disease prevention through demonstration and education. The exposition emphasised the importance of good hygiene practices and a healthy lifestyle. The 1911 exhibition showcased the latest medical and scientific technology of the time, including new sterilisation equipment, medical instruments and diagnostic methods. The venue and building of the Dresden Hygiene Exposition has been transformed into the German Hygiene Museum nowaday.
In 1911,Dr. Takagi represented Japan at the Dresden Hygiene Exposition, and wrote in German 'Die hygienischen verhältnisse der insel Formosa' ('The Hygiene of Formosa'), a detailed introduction to the achievements of epidemic prevention and public health in Taiwan. This book is also a summary of Dr. Takagi's ten years of medical and health work in Taiwan.
