醫學生 Medical Students
In the early days of the Medical Faculty of the Taiwan Governor's Office, there was no entrance examination, and all that was required was the recommendation of local governors, public school principals, and public doctors from all over the country. The qualifications for admission were also very low, with only the junior section of a public school and a good understanding of Japanese being required, and in 1900, when the second intake of students began, the Department of Civil Affairs sent health officers around to lobby for 45 students, and in the previous years it was almost impossible to recruit any students.
The medical school was admitted by examination and graduated after five years of study, and in 1936 the school was incorporated into the Imperial University of Taipei as a medical school. After the Japanese occupation, Taiwanese attitudes towards Western medical education changed from unfamiliarity and rejection to enthusiasm, with parents encouraging their children to make medical school their highest goal. There are many famous alumni including Du Congming, Chiang Wei-shui, literary scholar Lai He.
